I know what you mean, but I think I read "for better or worse" more broadly than that. Clearly the particular kind of "worse" that is betrayal, deception, disloyalty, abuse etc is not acceptable and never was acceptable anyway. I don't think the vow was ever really about that kind of "worse".

But there are all the other kids of "worse" that life throws at you. I always took "for better or worse" to be about not bailing when the going gets tough. When someone is sick, or someone goes bankrupt, or gets put in a wheelchair, or some tragedy strikes your lives, or whatever. I feel that for me, while I probably have a hair trigger when it comes to dishonesty or betrayal, I shouldn't be here unless all the other "for worse" stuff still stands.
